INDEPENDENT OR PRIVATE ADOPTION

INDEPENDENT OR PRIVATE ADOPTION

In an independent or private adoption, you work directly with birth parents instead of with an agency.

If you wish to pursue an independent adoption (sometimes called a “private adoption”), we will quarterback the process for you. We’ll find a social worker to conduct a home study approving you to adopt and help you prepare an informational packet and/or website to share with prospective birth parents so they can get to know you. We will also help you develop a plan for spreading the word and locating a birth mother through word of mouth, online advertising, personal networking, and more.

When the baby is born, legal custody transfers directly to you, the adoptive parents. We’ll handle the legal work required to terminate the biological parents’ rights and quickly move you through the interstate adoption process, if you are adopting a child from another state. When it is time to finalize the adoption, we will guide you through the court hearing to get the Decree of Adoption and your child’s new birth certificate.
